16 teams raised money over the weekend to help people who have experienced natural disasters. The students were taking part in the 6th Annual Start-Up Hackathon at Cal-State Monterey Bay. The teams created technology to help prepare for, survive, and recover from natural disasters. First place went to the team that created “I Am Safe”, a web and phone application that allows people to check-in in disaster zones, and let their loved ones know n they are ok. The crowd favorite went to the team that created “Life Is Ruff”, which helps family members reconnect with their pets after a disaster.
