Salinas Prison Gang Busted 10-22-20 15:40 DC

The Salinas Police Department today hosted a joint press conference along with federal and state law enforcement agencies to announce that a federal judge had unsealed an indictment of an alleged “murder squad” that had been operating in Monterey County.

Six members of the squad have been indicted and charged with racketeering conspiracy, murder and related crimes.

Investigators say the murders are believed to be tied to gang activity inside and outside of the Salinas State Prison. Police reported that the orders for the crimes came from gang leaders inside local prisons in many cases.

According to federal prosecutors, between January 2017 and November 2018 eight people were shot and killed and more people were injured. Only one of the eight victims was connected to a gang.
