The 60th anniversary, of what is now called the Castroville Artichoke Food And Wine Festival, is scheduled to take place early next month. The June 1st and 2nd event is slated to be held at the Monterey County Fair And Event Center in Monterey. Artichoke shoots were first planted in Castroville in 1922. Nearly 100 years later, almost all of the artichokes grown in the U.S., are grown in California….with nearly 2-thirds of those being grown within 30 miles of Castroville.
