Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing failed medical theories. Contending that because of the medical industry's failed theory on weight gain has made Americans number one in obesity. Asserting that weight doesn't occur because of eating too much and lack of exercise. Stating that weight gain is the result of nutritional deficiencies.

A mother wrote to Fox's health expert Dr. Manny Alvarez asking if she should give her finicky eating son supplements. Dr. Manny's answer was shocking as he told the mother that because of fortified food products kids really don't need to supplement. Also stating that in "mega doses" supplements could be toxic.

Doug Winfrey and Melissa Golloday discuss a news article concerning doctors and pharmacists pairing dangerous drug combinations. The article was about an investigative story by the Chicago Tribune. Sending out 15 reporters to 255 pharmacies in four states. The reporters tried to fill prescriptions for clarithromycin (an antibiotic) and simvastatin (an anti-cholesterol drug). Alone the drugs are considered safe to take. However taken in combination they can be dangerous causing muscle tissue breakdown and could lead to kidney failure and possibly death. As many as 60% of the pharmacists did not warn the patients of the potential risk.

Finding that 70% of the oils are adulterated, oxidized and rancid. Many of the oils labeled extra virgin had been adulterated with lower quality cheaper olive oils. In some cases the added oils weren't even olive oil.

Now they are calling high fructose corn syrup fructose or fructose sugar to fool consumers into thinking the product is healthy. The newly named sweetener contains 90% fructose while the old one only contained 42 to 55% fructose.
