Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Contending that when cells don't get all of the nutrients they need many problems can occur. Asserting that since all the nutrients a cell needs can not be found in our foods. First they state that if someone goes to the hospital and are given a prescription the patient should question the doctor about it. Asking if it is the right med or if the med with be a problem with meds already being taken. Make sure the patient is the right one for a procedure or tests. If the patient is going to have a procedure make sure the surgeon gets the right site by marking it. The patient should ask every healthcare worker they come in contact with wash their hands or use a sanitizer. If an antibiotic is prescribed ask the doctor if the infection is bacterial or viral.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the story of Ancel Keys. Who in the early 1900s was President of the American Heart Association. He was hired by Procter and Gamble to go around the country demonizing cholesterol. In an effort to help sell Procter and Gamble's Crisco product as a healthy alternative to lard and dairy products. So cholesterol being tauted as the cause of plugged arteries was nothing more than an ad campaign.

Researchers found that between 1995 and 2014 there has been a rise certain cancers linked to obesity in millenials including colorectal, kidney and pancreatic cancers. Millenials have about doulble the risk of developing obesity-related cancers compared to baby boomers at the same age. Raising fears that as this group ages they could slow or halt the reduction of morbitity rates seen in past decades.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concering a link between heartburn drugs and infections. A metanalysis of 16 previous studies of heartburn drugs of nearly 8000 people. Those who took these heartburn drugs had a 50% increased risk of having recurrent Clostridium difficile infections. Recent studies have also been seeing increases in C. difficile infections in younger healthy people.
