Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article concerning a study of weight lifting methods. The study looked at 49 experienced weight lifters and divided them into two groups. One group lifted weights that were between 30 and 50 percent of the maximum weight the individual could lift. The other group lifted heavier weights that were between 75 and 90 percent of the maximum they could lift. Lifting the weights for eight to 12 repetitions per set. Working out four days a week for twelve weeks. Researchers found the two groups showed similar improvements in muscle mass and strength. The results show that athletes don’t have to lift heavy weights to build muscle mass and increase strength.
