The agencies that provide wildfire workforce are being asked to transition their agencies and workers to year-round work. That’s because such blazes no longer see m to be occurring just during certain months of the year. The change would mean the reclassification of seasonal firefighter positions from seasonal to permanent. The request came after last year’s more than 9,900 fires, that burned 4.25 million acres, killed 33 people and destroyed nearly 10,500 homes and other buildings.
