Watsonville city councilman manuel bersamin has announced that he will step down from the city council, so that he can care for his mother. Bersamin has served since 2003, when he was appointed to the city council. Bersamin intends to step down as soon as a replacement is appointed. He plans to vote for his successor, as luis alejo did in 2010. a judge recently upheld that practice. A special meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, to discuss the appointment process.
