The San Jose Mercury News reports that a woman charged with murdering a man at a Hayward motel in July 2017 is the same person alleged to have stabbed one of the paper’s reporters 10 days earlier.
After that, police say 24-year-old Sydney Megan Whalen was jailed August 1st in Santa Cruz County for an assault that occurred in Santa Cruz. That was the day after the Hayward killing. Whalen is being held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery for that incident. Her bail is set at $50,000.
