THE PFEIFFER WILDFIRE IN BIG SUR HAS PROMPTED THE MONTEREY BAY UNIFIED AIR POLLUTION CONTROL DISTRICT AND MONTEREY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO ISSUE A SMOKE ADVISORY. FINE PARTICLES IN SMOKE CAN CAUSE HEALTH ISSUES, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN, OLDER PEOPLE, AND THOSE WITH LUNG PROBLEMS. RESIDENTS WHO SEE OR SMELL SMOKE ARE ENCOURAGED TO AVOID STRENUOUS OUTDOOR EXERCISE, KEEP WINDOWS AND DOORS CLOSED, AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER TO KEEP AIRWAYS MOIST. PEOPLE WITH SEVERE COUGHING, WATERY, ITCHY EYES, OR DIFFICULTY BREATHING AS A RESULT OF THE SMOKE, SHOULD SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE.
