Not only is this week Wildfire Awareness Week, but the burn season has ended for the year in the Monterey Bay Area. Cal-Fire officials, along with those at local fire districts, are all asking homeowners to prepare for the fire season. As part of that preparation, people are asked to create 100 feet of Defensible Space around their homes and outbuildings, which means clearing all dead and dying vegetation from around all structures, landscaping with fire-resistant and drought-tolerant plants and finding alternative ways to dispose of landcsape debris.
