Why is gasoline so expensive here in California? More particularly, some California State Assembly members, including local reps Mark Stone and Robert Rivas have asked the state attorney general to look onto why gas prices spiked back in 2015 and continue high to this day.
This increase – which some people are calling a “surcharge” – made the nation’s most expensive gas even more so. And without an obvious explanation.
Nearly a dozen state lawmakers have demanded an investigation into what gasoline pricing experts say add up to $17 billion in extra money for the gasoline industry. Some blame the improved economy and customers’ willingness to pay for the price hikes.
