In response to worries by school administrators around the state, California lawmakers are seeking to extend a deadline, to require all students to be vaccinated against whooping cough. The senate has passed the 30-day extension, and the bill is awaiting the governor’s approval. The new state law requiring the T-dap vaccine remains, however instead of being sent home on the first day of school, students have 30-days from the start of the year to be vaccinated. T-dap protects against whooping cough, as well as other diseases. Health clinics are making the vaccine available at low or no cost, (to those that need assistance). Among them, the Monterey County Health Department has vaccination clinics, that are available for walk-in service throughout the week.
