The grocery chain whole foods will no longer be doing business with a santa cruz county hatchery. spokesmen for whole foods announced the decision in the wake of allegations of animal abuse at the facility. Cal-Cruz Hatcheries, (based in live oak), is accused in a civil suit of employing people that abused young chickens and ducks. Although the santa cruz county district attorney decided not to pursue criminal charges, an animal rights group is moving forward with a civil suit. That led whole foods to decline to do further business with any customer that sourced its poultry from the hatchery. the civil case is set to continue on may 10th.
