Plans were announced this week by the Whole Foods Grocery Chain to partner with Monterey Bay Aquarium and Blue Ocean to launch a color-coded seafood rating program. The program, which is intended to measure the environmental impact of it’s wild-caught seafood, is an effort to change seafood policies as concerns about over fishing and the environmental effects of certain fishing methods are being raised. The system assigns seafood a green, yellow or red rating. The rating is based on how abundant the species is, and how sustainable the methods used to catch it are.
