On Saturday morning, a collision occurred at Center Street and Pacific Avenue.
Santa Cruz Police officers arrived on scene to discover a vehicle had collided with a tree.
The driver remains in critical condition and Is currently hospitalized. The passenger, a man in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses state that the vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
The cause of collision remains under investigation.
