A man from Watsonville has been arrested on suspicion of killing his stepdaughter 16 years ago in Miami. Watsonville and Santa Cruz police took 46-year-old Raul Mata into custody on Monday.
He is accused of murdering 16-year-old Dilcia Mejía in September 2004 in Miami.
She was found stabbed to death with her throat cut in the bedroom of her trailer home.
Watsonville police made the arrest after Miami-Dade Police Department investigators obtained new physical and circumstantial evidence linking Mata to the case.
Mata is currently being housed in Santa Cruz County Jail, but officials will seek to extradite him to Florida.
