The Watsonville City Council has passed an ordinance banning e-cigarette smoking in retail shops, parks, restaurants, and city buildings. E-cigarettes have become increasingly popular amongst youth, and the health risks of inhaling vapor are not yet known. Data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that e-cigarette smoking amongst high school students has more than doubled between 2011 and 2012. Watsonville is now the third city in Santa Cruz County to regulate the devices.
