Every evening at 7, a Vietnam veteran in Watsonville is playing Taps on this bugle to honor those who died of coronavirus that day.
Former Navy musician Bob Mangels said that after being turned down when he tried to become a food bank volunteer that playing Taps his is the “one thing” he can do to give back to his community.
Mangels said that he has been playing brass instruments for 60 years and he’ll continue to play Taps each evening for as long as the pandemic continues to take people’s lives.
Bob is a member of the non-profit group Bugles Across America. They travel to play taps at the funerals of fallen soldiers.
KSBW reported this story and you can find the video of Bob playing taps on the station’s website. You can also find that link at KSCO.com/news.
