Volunteer Ombudsmen are being sought in Santa Cruz. Once they go through the 36-hour training program, and spend 15 hours shadowing an experienced ombudsman, they will advocate for people living in nursing homes (and assisted living facilities). More than 60 percent of nursing home residents never receive a visitor, and so they have no one to speak up for their needs. Applications to become such a volunteer can be found on-line at advocacy-inc.org, or by calling (831) 429-1913.
The applications need to be turned in by May 10th, and the next training program is scheduled to begin the end of this month.
