The new Santa Cruz Veterans Treatment Court is expected to open after the first of the year. Many local agencies and volunteer groups have collaborated to create this court system, designed to help and support veterans enduring the criminal justice system. Through the program, eligible veterans will be connected to federal benefits and alternative sentencing and treatments from judges and district attorney’s. The treatment court is presently looking to recruit around two dozen veteran volunteers to support other veterans going through the system.
