Updated: UCSC Shuttle Driver Second SCCO COVID Death 04-5-20 03:11

UC Santa Cruz has reported that one of its campus loop shuttle drivers has become the second person to die of COVID-19 in Santa Cruz County. On Saturday, the University had said the man, described as being in his 60’s and facing other health issues, had tested positive. He died Tuesday morning.

UCSC said the driver drove the loop route on April 1st and 2nd but had not been on campus since then. It said transit records show that about 19 people rode on the driver’s bus those two days, but the university does not know who those passengers were.

The university said it believes passengers were at low risk of exposure to the man, thanks to social distancing and cleaning protocols that had been in place for two weeks before the driver became ill.
