(Updated at 06:44) – Over 20,000 residents have been displaced by two wildfires in Northern California.
The Valley Fire in Lake County has destroyed hundreds of homes and threatens nearly 9,000 more structures. The blaze has burned 62,000 acres and, as of Monday night, is 10 percent contained. One fatality has been reported and a number of residents are missing.
Meanwhile, the Butte Fire in Amador and Calaveras counties has burned over 71,000 acres. Nearly 200 homes have been destroyed and over 6,000 more structures are threatened. As of Monday night, the blaze is now 35 percent contained. Mandatory evacuations are in place for both fires.

One person has been killed, four firefighters injured and hundreds of homes destroyed in a fire that broke out in Lake County over the weekend. The Valley Fire sparked near the community of Cobb on Saturday and has since burned over 50,000 acres. As of Monday morning, the fire is 0% contained.
Meanwhile, a fire in Amador and Calaveras counties has grown to 65,000 acres. The Butte Fire broke out east of Jackson last week and has since destroyed nearly 100 homes. Fire crews reached 25% containment on Sunday. Mandatory evacuation orders are being issued in both fires. (S.G.)
