The Santa Cruz pilot, who crash-landed his plane on Highway 99 on Friday night, was trying to fly from Truckee to San Martin. 59 year-old Dirk Kanngeisser crash-landed his Piper PA-28 after he said it was running too rough to make it to close-by Modesto Airport. Although the plane burst into flames, he was able to walk away with only minor injuries.
