(Updated at 09:56) – Investigators have determined the cause of a house fire that injured a man in Aptos last week. The blaze was reported Friday afternoon at a residence on the 300 block of Bonita Drive. Officials say the fire was caused by the explosion of a butane hash oil lab inside the home. One man was transported to a Bay Area trauma center with severe burns. Four dogs were inside the residence at the time of the fire. One was found dead in the fire’s aftermath. The investigation is ongoing.

The blaze was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Bonita Drive shortly after 2 p.m. Crews extinguished the fire in just under two hours. One man escaped the home and was transported to a Bay Area trauma center with severe burns. Four dogs were inside the residence at the time of the fire. One was found dead in the fire’s aftermath.
