A looming strike by employees at save mart has likely been averted, following an agreement to enter mediation. Members of the united food and commercial workers union had threatened to strike if no agreement was reached. The mediation process involves an independent, 3rd-party negotiator that can establish the company’s finances and a fair offer to employees. A deadline for an agreement was set for july 10. Meanwhile, members of the U-F-C-W remain in contract negotiations with safeway and raley’s. local members have already authorized a strike at raley’s, however no action has yet been taken.
