The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission will consider a proposal next week that uses federal funds to pay it’s share towards the purchase of a Union Pacific Rail line. That new proposal comes after 14.2 million dollars was recently approved by the Commission for Santa Cruz County to buy 32-miles of rail line that would run from Davenport to Watsonville. In order to meet the state’s requirement, Union Pacific has agreed to pay $400,000 and County officials agreed to pay $250,000 in engineering and closing costs.
The commission is slated to consider the new proposal during it’s 9 a.m. meeting next Thursday in Watsonville.
