A U.C. SANTA CRUZ STUDENT, WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN A SENIOR IN SEPTEMBER (majoring in Environmental Conservation), DIED WHEN A TREE FELL ON HER NEAR YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK THIS MORNING. 21 YEAR-OLD ANNAIS RITTENBERG WAS WORKING AS A CAMP COUNSELOR AT CAMP TAWONGA IN TUOLUMNE COUNTY, JUST OUTSIDE YOSEMITE, WHEN SHE AND 4 OTHER SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS WERE HIT BY A LARGE OAK TREE.
RITTENBERG WAS DECLARED DEAD AT THE SCENE, AND THE OTHER 4 WERE TRANSPORTED TO AREA HOSPITALS.
