Ucsc students shut down the campus thursday, as part of a nationwide protest against education cuts. The protest was Dubbed “occupy education”; students gathered at 4:30 a.m., and restricted vehicles from entering campus throughout the day. (Emergency vehicles were allowed to enter.) A 20-year-old man was detained after driving a vehicle through a line of protesters at about 8:30 thursday morning. 4-people were struck by the car, but nobody was seriously injured. Most classes were cancelled in advance of the protest; some classes were reportedly held off campus. Students are set to hold another rally in Sacramento Monday. students rallied at several california campuses, including students at CSUMB. that campus, however was not shut down.
