UCSC 2014 Calendar Shift 01-21-14 12:00 av

New and returning students to UC-Santa Cruz will see a calendar change next academic year to accommodate the Jewish holidays.   The change comes after the Jewish community expressed concerns that move-in days would conflict with the High Holy Days, the 10 days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  School Officials say these days shift according to the lunar calendar, and fall at the end of September 2014, pushing the first day of classes to October 2nd, also shortening winter break as a result.    The change affects campuses on the quarter system, like UCSC, which has a 17% Jewish student population.
