UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS ARE BEING FORCED TO GROW INCREASINGLY SELECTIVE. ALTHOUGH A RECORD TOTAL 80 THOUSAND FRESHMAN WERE ADMITTED TO UC CAMPUSES FOR THIS FALL, THIS NUMBER STILL FAILS TO KEEP UP WITH THE GROWING AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS THE UNIVERSITIES RECEIVE. THE UCs ALSO SAW A HIGHER RATE OF OUT OF STATE AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ACCEPTANCE THIS YEAR. THOSE NUMBERS HAVE GROWN BY 33 AND 60 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY. THIS IS DUE TO LACK OF FUNDING, AS CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS PAY A REDUCED TUITION RATE. OVERALL, THE FIGURES POINT TO HEIGHTENED DIFFICULTY GETTING INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA FOR ALL STUDENTS.
