UC Santa Cruz researchers have launched a campaign to map the banana slug’s DNA. The project will focus specifically on the species that lives in the forests of UCSC. Researchers are aiming to raise $20,000 for the project, which would culminate in a special academic course on the banana slug genome. Findings would also help scientists understand the evolution of the gastropod and compare it to closely related species. To support the project, visit crowdfund.ucsc.edu.
