Police say two people have died at a Santa Cruz homeless camp this week. The deaths on Monday and Tuesday at Gateway Plaza are both under investigation. Santa Cruz police said foul play is not believed responsible in either case.
Coroner’s officials said the exact causes of death remain under investigation and relatives of either person have not yet been notified.
The deaths are not related to one another or to a fire at the Santa Cruz tent city, where one person was injured when a cooking fire burned out of control. Investigators said that victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening and the blaze was quickly contained.
