Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Detectives today arrested two jail inmates in the October 13th murder of another inmate, 24-year-old German Carrillo.
The inmates who were arrested are 33-year-old Mario Lozano of Santa Cruz and 25-year-old Jason Cortez if Watsonville.
The three were sharing a jail cell in a housing unit designated for active gang members when the killing occurred.
Carrillo had been in custody at the main jail for murder since April of 2013. He was found dead in his cell around 11 a.m. on October 14th, 2019. Following an autopsy and investigation, it was determined Carrillo had been strangled the day before.
Charges against Lozano and Cortez are pending.
