MONTEREY COUNTY JURORS HAVE FOUND 20 YEAR-OLD EZEKIEL LOPEZ-FIGUEROA GUILTY OF THE 2008 FATAL SHOOTING OF AN 11 YEAR-OLD GIRL. ESTHER RUBIO, AND HER 15 YEAR OLD BROTHER, WERE BOTH SHOT AT A KING CITY HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER GAME. LOPEZ-FIGUEROA, WHO WAS TRIED AS AN ADULT, IS ACCUSED OF MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER, ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM, PARTICIPATING IN A CRIMINAL STREET GANG, AND OTHER GUN AND GANG CRIMES.
2 OTHER TEENAGERS, WHO WERE ARRESTED ALONG WITH LOPEZ-FIGUEROA, WERE SENTENCED IN JUVENILE COURT.
THE TRIAL, WHICH BEGAN LAST WEEK, INCLUDED A VIDEO CONFESSION FROM THE DEFENDANT AND TESTIMONIES FROM WITNESSES, THE SURVIVING SIBLING, AND THE TEENS WHO ADMITTED TO THEIR ROLE IN THE CASE.
