As of this (Monday) morning, San Benito County joined the list of counties requiring the use of a face covering when out in public.
This order is for anyone 12 years of age or older requiring the use of a bandana, cloth, or other face covering. While masks aid in protecting against Covid-19 Transmission when interacting with other people in public or inside shops, it is no substitute for social distancing.
Health officials discourage the purchasing of N95 or surgical grade masks as they are in short supply for critical healthcare and frontline workers.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz County requires face masks when out in public as of the prior week.
As for Monterey County, a face mask requirement is still reportedly being determined by their health officer.
