This month, a trail at Former Fort Ord was named in honor of a Marina resident. 87-year-old Allen MacDonald served as a soldier in the Army’s Horse Cavalry at Fort Ord, before serving time in the Pacific during World War 2. He was then stationed in Nevada, working to break horses for the Army. He retired from the Army, and moved back to the Central Coast in 1965. MacDonald worked at the Fort in post maintenance, and performed in several ceremonies with his mare, “Comanche.” The trail running from the Marina Equestrian Center to Comanche’s Grave, (which is a landmark on the fort), was named this month The Sergeant Allen MacDonald Cavalry Trail.
