Wildlife officials have confirmed a third bobcat has been poisoned near UC Santa Cruz. The bobcat was found dead on the side of Empire Grade Road earlier last month. Test results reveal the animal was weakened by rat poison before it was hit by a car. Two other poisoned bobcats have been found in the area in the past four months. The necropsies of all three found the animals ingested an anticoagulant rat poison restricted under new regulations. Wildlife officials have not yet determined the source of the poison. In the meantime, a new public outreach program has been launched to educate nearby residents.
