Automobile and residential burglaries have jumped in recent months, according to the Monterey Police Department. Officials believe a roving group of thieves that target affluent areas up and down the Bay Area and Central Coast is partly responsible. Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles, homes and garages and not leave valuable items in plain sight.
