A collection box benefiting a Corralitos equestrian team was stolen from a convenience store on Friday, but the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office has come to the rescue. The thieves stole the box containing $300 that was to go toward travel expenses for four girls from the Gwen Davies Horsemanship team for a competition next month. Without the money, the young riders would be unable to make it to the show. However, upon hearing of the theft, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Posse and Deputy Sheriff’s Association donated $600 to help out. The girls plan to make up rest of the cost by selling baked goods and horsetail wraps outside of General Feed and Seed in Santa Cruz every weekend for the next 5 weekends.
