Asserting that when he did comparative pathologies he looked at the arteries of meat eaters and vegetarians finding the later had more clogged arteries. Stating this is because they consumed a lot of oils that had oxidized and caused damage to the walls of the arteries. In an effort to repair the artery wall the body put plaque over the damaged areas eventually clogging the artery.

Researchers fed one group of mice a high fat diet along with an extract from the "Lingzhi" mushroom. Feeding another group only the high fat diet. After two months those getting the mushroom extract didn't gain much weight and their gut bacteria was like that of a thin mouse. While those getting only the high fat diet gained weight and when fed feces from the mice getting the extract their gut bacteria changed to be like that of thin mice.

The first is there are two types of sugar naturally occuring in fruits, vegetables and dairy products. Second the article recommends reading labels because natural sugars and added sugars are combined on food labels. Third people should limit sugar intake the American Heart Association recommends women should have no more than 100 calories daily in added sugar. Fourth people should understand that when drinking fruit and vegetable healthy drinks they are getting natural sugars but no fiber. Fiber helps slow digestion giving the body time to metabolize sugar.
