The Seaside teacher, who accidentally fired a handgun while teaching a firearm safety class, will be charged with an infraction for leaving his handgun in an unattended vehicle. Although it is normally illegal to bring a firearm to school, police are exempt from that law (whether they are on-duty or off)….and Dennis Alexander was a reserve Sand City police officer when the incident occurred in March. Reportedly Alexander was explaining a demonstration he was about to do as he tried to unload the handgun….and that’s when he inadvertently fired 1 round into the ceiling.
