An effort by the California Public Utilities Commision to tax text messages is getting push back by the Federal Communications Commission. The C-P-U-C wants to tax text messages to fund their public purpose program. No word yet on the amount of the tax but it would be billed as a flat surcharge. The F-C-C says texts are classified as “Information Services”… like e-mail which is non-taxable rather than “Telecommunication Services.”
