Tax day delayed 04-15-21 06:23 S.S.

Pre-pandemic, April 15th had been the deadline (for decades) for filing state and federal income taxes. This year the IRS and the Franchise Tax Board annou nced that the deadline has been delayed 1 month (actually a month and 2 days), due to some temporary new rules that have been put in place as a result of the pandemic. Individual taxpayers do not need to file any forms, or call the IRS, to qualify for this automa tic federal tax filing and payment relief. Individual taxpayers who need additional time to file beyond the May 17 deadline can request a filing extension until October15th, by filing Form 4868 through their tax professional, tax software or by using the Free File link on IRS.gov.
