Take Back Santa Cruz has released an updated count of needles found throughout the county. The organization reports over 6,700 discarded syringes have been found in the last two years. The same report reveals hotspots where needles are frequently found, including Harvey West Park, San Lorenzo Park, and the Evergreen Cemetery. In the past two years, four adults, three children and a dog have been stuck by syringes. There are three kiosks to discard needles throughout the county, including two locations in Santa Cruz on Emeline Avenue and Ocean Street, and a Watsonville site on Crestview Drive. The public is encouraged to contact police if they find syringes.
