IT HAS BEEN 28 YEARS SINCE DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENT ENRIQUE CAMARENA WAS MURDERED BY DRUG TRAFFICKERS. SINCE THEN, THE SCOTTS VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN DEDICATING ONE WEEK IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER TO HIS MEMORY. CELEBRANTS WEAR RED RIBBONS TO HONOR HIS SERVICE, AND TO SUPPORT THE COMMITMENT OF A DRUG FREE LIFE STYLE. ALL LOCAL SCHOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH RIBBONS, WRIST BANS AND BANNERS, TO BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS FOR THEIR PLEDGE TO A DRUG FREE LIFE. THE CITY WILL CELEBRATE RED RIBBON WEEK FROM OCTOBER 23RD THROUGH THE 31ST.ALL CITY PERSONNEL PLAN TO SPORT THE RED RIBBON, AND THE COMMUNITY IS ENCOURAGED TO FOLLOW SUIT.
