UCSC’s porter circle was evacuated today, after a couple of suspicious backpacks were noticed. About 60-people were ushered out of the area at about 3 p.m., when 2-backpacks were reported to have smoke coming out of them. The Santa cruz county sheriff’s bomb squad was called to the scene, and the backpacks were determined to be harmless. People were allowed to reenter the area at about 5 p.m.
