THE CALIFORNIA FLATS SOLAR PROJECT IS PLANNED TO BE BUILT IN SOUTHEASTERN MONTEREY COUNTY. THE SOLAR ARRAY WILL CONSIST OF PHOTO PANELS CLUSTERED IN A SERIES OF BLOCKS DISTRIBUTED OVER 19 HUNDRED ACRES OF THE 2 THOUSAND 675-ACRE SITE. THE SOLAR ARRAY WOULD TIE INTO HIGH VOLTAGE LINES THAT CONNECTS A POWER PLANT IN SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, WITH AN ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION IN FRESNO COUNTY. THE POWER PLANT IS SET TO CLOSE IN 2015, WHICH MEANS A SOURCE OF ELECTRIC POWER WILL BE NEEDED IN THIS AREA, AND THE SOLAR FARM COULD FIT THAT BILL. IF APPROVED, AND CONSTRUCTED, THE NEW SOLAR FARM COULD GENERATE 280 MEGAWATTS OF ELECTRICITY (WHICH IS ENOUGH TO POWER 280 THOUSAND HOMES).
