A pair of lawsuits, between U.C. Davis and 2 local strawberry grower/researchers have been settled. 90 percent of the nation’s strawberries are grown in California, and varieties bred by U.C. Davis researchers account for about half of the state’s crop. The now-settled dispute began back in 2012 when 2 of the University’s top strawberry breeders left to form California Berry Cultivars in Watsonville. The researchers, and U.C. Davis, have reportedly decided to work together for the betterment of the crop.
