A powerful storm is headed for the Santa Cruz County area this week. Heavy rain is predicted to begin Wednesday evening and will last throughout Friday. The Santa Cruz Mountains will receive an estimated 3 to 5 inches of rain or more. The national weather service advises that the rain may result in minor flooding and mud slides. Strong winds of up to 70 miles-per-hour are expected to be strongest Wednesday night through Thursday morning, and could result in downed power lines. Due to stormy conditions, motorists may experience slick roadways and travel difficulties.
